The Municipality of Didymoteicho is organizing the three-day cultural event “Didymoteicho ART NIGHTS 2026,” to be held on June 24, 25, and 26, 2026, transforming the historic Castle and its neighborhoods into an open space for art, creativity, and cultural expression.
For three consecutive days, residents and visitors will have the opportunity to enjoy a rich program of events, including visual arts exhibitions, theatrical performances, musical shows, workshops on traditional and contemporary arts, creative activities for children, and a multitude of artistic interventions.
Events will take place daily from 19:00 to 21:30 at the Kastro (Patr. Dionysiou), Kaindra (Athinas 1-16), Malamati (Gefyras 11), and Alana (Lachanagoras 13, formerly the Papadopoulou Playground) sites; after 21:30, the action will shift to various neighborhoods within the Kastro, featuring theatrical and musical performances under the summer night sky.
The program includes exhibitions of painting, iconography, ceramics, weaving, jewelry, woodcarving, embroidery, silk creations, and handmade crafts, alongside open workshops in ceramics, decoupage, stone carving, and woodcarving. At the same time, the event features theatrical reenactments depicting Didymoteicho in a bygone era, video screenings showcasing the area’s history and cultural identity, graffiti art activities, and aerial artistic performances.
The activities for children at “Alana”—featuring creative workshops, face painting, tattoos, and other pastimes—are of particular interest, as is the Shadow Theatre performance starring Karagiozis, presented by Giannis Voultsidis’s “Mikros Diakosmos.”
Evening events form a significant part of the program, featuring street theater by the Didymoteicho Municipality Volunteer Actors’ Group; musical evenings showcasing *rebetiko*, light popular music, and rock-blues; musical tributes to Nikos Kavvadias by the “Dimitrios Arampatzis” Association of Musicians and Music Lovers of Nea Orestiada; and a performance by the Soufli Mandolin Orchestra of the “KINISOU” Volunteer and Youth Association.
At the same time, throughout the three-day period, the churches of Saint Athanasios, Christ the Savior, and the Dormition of the Theotokos in Didymoteicho will remain open daily from 19:00 to 21:30 for veneration and visits.
“Didymoteicho ART NIGHTS – Art Evenings 2026” is a significant cultural event that highlights the history, tradition, and contemporary artistic creativity of Didymoteicho through the participation of cultural associations, artists, creators, and organizations from the wider region.
